At Rosebank School, our curriculum is designed around our Stage Not Age approach, recognising that every child is unique and that learning and development do not always follow a typical age-related pathway. Our curriculum is carefully structured to meet the needs, interests and individual starting points of our pupils, while ensuring that all children have meaningful opportunities to learn, develop and achieve.

Through our Stage Not Age curriculum, we aim to provide every pupil with the right learning at the right time, enabling them to discover, develop and deepen their knowledge, skills, confidence and independence.

Our EYFS 2D Curriculum – Early Discovering and Early Developing provides a strong foundation for our youngest pupils, focusing on exploration, engagement, communication, independence and the development of early skills.

As pupils progress into KS1 and KS2, our 3D Curriculum – Discovering, Developing and Deepening builds on these foundations, supporting pupils to revisit, consolidate and extend their knowledge, skills and understanding across a broad and balanced curriculum. Our curriculum meets the statutory requirements of the National Curriculum, while being thoughtfully adapted to ensure it is accessible and meaningful for autistic pupils.

Our curriculum is closely linked to each pupil’s EHCP outcomes, ensuring that learning is purposeful, personalised and focused on enabling each pupil to make meaningful progress. Learning is further supported through autism-specific pedagogies, strategies and approaches that recognise and respond to the individual strengths, needs and learning styles of autistic pupils.

Communication is at the heart of everything we do. Through a Total Communication approach, we support pupils to understand and express themselves using the communication methods that work best for them, including speech, symbols, signing, objects, visuals, AAC and other personalised approaches.
