The classes at Rosebank all have names of trees. Our youngest children are all in Saplings. This is the traditional reception class which follows an Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum.

At the end of their reception year children either:

  • stay in Saplings for an additional year
  • move to Holly Class where the curriculum is taught through experience based semi-formal medium
  • move to Cedar Class and follow a more formal curriculum.

The classes which teach through experience based semi-formal medium are collectively known in school as The Orchard. Those that follow a more formal curriculum are known as The Woodlands.

The path each child takes on their journey from Saplings through The Orchards or The Woodlands is not fixed and children may move from one to the other as their needs change. The emphasis is on ‘how’ each child learns best and meeting individual pupil needs.

The names of the classes are linked to the names of the rooms and so these may change as the cohorts of children differ from year to year.
